Blog: D is for Dedicated
What’s on your career checklist? Frankly, I didn’t start out to pursue a goal, including not obtaining appropriate education/training to qualify for a specific career path. When my dad became sick and needed help running his business, what I had was life experience. Twenty years later and today I am enjoying a full-fledged career in an industry of my dad’s choosing.
Here are five ways this adopted industry became my own and tips to consider:
- Learn all you can about your job responsibilities—seek learning opportunities, get a mentor, be dedicated to the values you live by and lead by.
- Be dedicated to the success of the organization—contribute your skills, time, and energy, offer solutions, work overtime, assist the team, maintain a positive attitude.
- Have a conversation with yourself about dedication—the mental strength and resilience required will allow you to focus on goals and achieve them even in the face of obstacles.
- Pursue endeavors beyond the job description—choose to be dedicated to your trade association by volunteering, becoming involved in committee or leadership work with goals that drive you and will benefit your entire industry.
- Professional and personal growth is possible your entire life—I found dedication to be the catalyst for achieving great things.
